Fire Safety Technology

Choose A Firefighter School.

As a person who wants to join the world of firefighters, I had to start my journey by choosing a fire school to learn how to do the job perfectly. I had two choices of fire schools.

Choice 1 : Go to the IPIQ.

Choice 2 : Firefighter's Academy.

IPIQ

Go to the IPIQ.

I decided to go to a public firefighter academy, I had gone to IPIQ. The IPIQ is the only public fire school in the whole province of Quebec and the best one to choose. The equipment there are the bests. I had a physical test and an IQ test to pass if I wanted to get accepted. Also, when I passed these two tests, I had a medical exam to pass to make sure that I'm on the right shape to do this job. I had a vision test, a hearing test and a lot more. One week later, I received an email to go get my uniforms for school. They were in a warehouse with plenty of uniforms from different jobs including Police Technology and Paramedics. The first day of school as finally arrived. The school started at 7:30, but I arrived 15 minutes earlier. All the 150 students, including myself, were in the auditorium. The principal of the school presented himself. After, we were separated in different groups to define the classes. We were 20. As soon as we arrived in our class, our teacher presented himself, and he wanted to know more about ourselves. Everybody talked. Suddenly, the teacher assigned grades to some students. He chose me to be a lieutenant.

Choice 1 : Become a lieutenant.

Choice 2 : Refuse to become a lieutenant.

Firefighter's Academy.

I wanted to go to a private fire school. So, I have gone to the Firefighters' Academy at Mirabel. It is a private, but it is way more expensive than the IPIQ. The classes there started at 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.It was my first day, and I arrived at 7:45. The principal presented himself and after, we want to our classes. Every student presented themselves. Suddenly, the teacher was giving grades to some student. He chose me to become a lieutenant.

Choice 2 : Refuse to become a lieutenant.

Become a lieutenant.

It was an honor to be selected to become a grade higher than regular firefighters. So, I accepted it. In our class, we are separated in four groups of five people. In each group, there are lieutenants. Per class, there is only one captain. The lieutenants are the leader of their own team and the Captain is the leader of the whole class. The lieutenants are the right hands of the captain. That means that my teacher saw something in me that could make me a good lieutenant when I told my background story. Later during the day, we were outside practicing militia because it is para military at the IPIQ. The months were passing, and we finally had our first internships coming soon. I had to choose three fire departments to do my internships there.

Choice 1 : Fire station #9.

Choice 2 : fire station #4.

Choice 3 : Fire station #31.

I chose fire station #9, because it is close to my house. Also, before entering the firefighter school, I already did an internship there. I liked it. The firefighters there are really nice and cool. An internship is a full day at the fire station. I answered emergency calls, lay and connected hose, hold nozzles and directed stream, raised and climbed ladders, used extinguisher, and a lot of equipment. I did three days of internships. The three days of internships were passing, and now it was the time to decide if I wanted to continue my studies in fire safety technology by going to college.
